Having a GAME Plan is a bit exciting. Just knowing that I have an opportunity to push myself beyond the usual makes me nervous but I am looking forward to do something different and exhilarating.
I have been keeping track of the county’s site that displays all the workshops for the upcoming school year but have not seen anything interesting as yet. I will continue to monitor this site because I want to attend educational workshops as much as I am allowed to during the school term.
Also, I am realizing that the plans that I have will work out in regards to me becoming a lifelong learner and then sharing with my peers. The administrators at my school are always looking for teachers who are willing to attend workshops and then are willing to share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues.
I do not have any specific questions but would love to hear about any community involvement that my classmates are apart of. Maybe this will give me some ideas about the best way to get involved in my community.

Denise,
ReplyDeleteI am already looking into other classes I will take once this master's program is complete. It is so important to understand that the learning will never end.
My students are going to complete a community service project this year. We are going to form a team for the Juvenile Diabetes walk.
I also have an advisory committee consisting of former students, business, and local college employees. I use this to improve lessons and as a networking tool.

Denise,
ReplyDeleteI have a list of topics of other classes I would like to take outside of my master's program so that when I see that they are coming to a convenient location I can' cross reference my list.
I had my special needs group complete a lesson on graphics. They created valentine's day cards and then I organized a visit to the nursing home in town. We printed enough cards for the entire group we were visiting. As a bonus, my group of students lead the bingo festivites for the day.
Not only did the elderly appreciate the visit and the cards but I believe the student felt an accomplishment.
Denise,
ReplyDeleteI have just finished 50 hours of professional development. The information I learned from these workshops will help me incorporate literacy skill throughout the curriculum. My administrators are exactly like yours; they want the teachers to go out and learn new things and then share them with the faculty.

I applaud your efforts for continuing to build your skills. Another resource you may want to check into is a site called lynda.com. It is a paid service, but you can learn just about any application you want at your own pace. There are even practice templates you can use if you don't have your own project idea in mind. I taught myself several programs by using this service and then shared the highlights with my teachers so they could use the programs.

ReplyDeleteDoes your county you live in have an Educational Service Center? If so, do they offer professional development workshops on technology? Ours does. We have a wonderful technology professional development program in our county. There are a number of very good tech coordinators that run these programs. They are offered during the summer and can be used as graduate credit through a local university if you pay the fee. Regardless of whether you go that route or not, you get the same training and it is really informative. It is something you could look into!
Ladies,
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of your input.
Have you thought about suggesting an Educational Workshop for your school to include in their listings? Maybe they would apperciate some feedback from the people who are actually taking the workshops.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as for community involvement, my students make children's clothes in sewing. We then donate the clothing to the local women's shelter.
